The horses are exceptional - strong, sure-footed, and responsive. Even during the precarious glacier ascent, I felt completely secure. You'll switch horses between segments, with each mount perfectly suited to the terrain.
The terrain is spectacular and UNSPOILED. The first segment takes you up winding mountain paths through volcanic formations and alongside glacier streams. The elevation gain rewards you with breathtaking views of the landscape and distant ocean.
After a warm, satisfying lunch (the lamb ragout pasta at the hotel is excellent), the second segment delivers what experienced riders dream of - the opportunity to GALLOP across Iceland's famous black sand beach! Words fail to describe the thrill of racing across that volcanic sand with the North Atlantic crashing beside you.
