点评：The monument is visible from most places in Washington DC so it is very easy to admire it from afar or from the base.
However, you are able to go up the monument. This requires a free timed ticket. The easiest way is to buy it online with a 1$ fee. Otherwise, it involves waiting at the Monument Lodge on 15th Street to get one for the day. The ticket box at the back of the building opens at 0845 and can quickly run out for the day.
There are seats at the base of the monument with signs for the timed entry. Make sure that you are waiting before your time otherwise, you might not be able to get in. Upon entry, there is a security check and then an elevator ride to the top. The view from the monument is quite interesting. There are maps by the windows to help highlight some of the famous buildings in the area. The bird's eye view around the area is quite nice. You can even see the planes landing at the nearby airport.
After enjoying the view, you head down some stairs to a small museum and the elevator down. I thought it was a really nice experience and worth a trip up if you are in DC.
