点评:On my first full day in Darwin, I went for breakfast and met a lovely couple at the table next to me who shared a few brochures with me that they had picked up at the Visitor Centre. I made my way to the Centre after enjoying my breakfast at a cafe in the Mall.
I sat looking through their very extensive pamphlets believing I had a grasp on what I generally wished to do. IF only it was that easy. *laughs* It's a good idea to know what you want to do - but for the specifics, it's wise to utilise the staff with their insight.
I was really fortunate to be served by a gentleman named Shane. He helped me book a flight to Kakadu, the Hop On/Hop Off bus, the RFDS museum, the Military Museum, a Fish & Chip Cruise AND he sold me something to ensure I wasn't eaten alive by mosquitos. Oddly enough, I didn't utilise the repellant at all... usually mosquitos want to have their way with me, without even buying me dinner first... but Darwin mosquitos were kind to me... for the most part, I only suffered from a few bites.
But back to the service from Shane... he was outstanding. He offered me any current discounts, and marked maps for me for other sites to see.
I fell in love with Darwin and there is no way I could have seen enough in a week to sate my curiosity. I was also told time and time by the locals that I need to return in the dry season, where I won't melt. The heat was awful to me, and as I felt I could not get enough of the place, I kept leaving my accommodation to go for walks to explore...but if that weather was a little kinder to me... I could have seen so much more.
A huge thank you to Shane.
