点评:Located just south of downtown with parts bordering the San Antonio River, this compact 25 block section was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It was settled by wealthy German immigrants starting in the 1840's and has an incredible lineup of Greek Revival, Italianate, and Victorian homes. Carl Guenther relocated his Pioneer Flour Mill and built the beautiful Guenther house here in 1859. All of these homes are private residences except for two, Guenther House and Villa Finale, which was the home of Walter Nold Mathis, who was greatly responsible for the revitalization of the King William Historic District starting in the 1960's. The Historic District has a walking tour map that lists most of the homes with historical information on each of them. Some homes also have informative plaques by their entrances. What a nice way to spend a few hours getting a close up look at some amazing properties.
