Kielder Observatory的点评
点评：Visited during Easter holidays and we were staying nearby in Butteryhough. My wife and I were joined by our 13yo and 10yo children.
It was 9pm til midnight. Thankfully we had clear skies. Started with a talk about the origins of the universe that lasted 45 mins and was very interesting and well delivered.
The remaining time we were split into groups and went with a different staff member/expert astronomer to look at different objects in the night sky with a variety of telescopes. There was also a hot drink provided and a chance to visit the gift shop with a nice range of merchandise.
Kielder is a dark sky area and the views were stunning with or without a telescope. The astronomers were enthusiastic, friendly, numerous and extremely knowledgeable.
Wrap up warm as observatories are open to the night air of course and one part was outside using a telescope.
The advice is to arrive 15 minutes early which is wise as it takes about that long to drive from the main road up the track to the observatory.
A huge thanks to all the staff there for a really memorable and enjoyable night!
