Kielder Observatory的点评
点评：The weather can't be helped, we're in Great Britain, but despite that, the staff put in an interesting and engaging experience and did what they could to share what the limited skies had to offer the night we visited. I'd never been to an observatory before and the tickets were booked by a friend, so I had no idea what to expect however, the experience was more than I expected with forecast bad weather.
We were given a very interesting and knowledgeable talk about the birth of stars by Liam who brought great enthusiasm and passion and kept us entertained. We then split into three groups to rotate around the various areas. We were first able to look at some objects from space, along with a short presentation from Dan, this was interesting and particularly quirky to "stand on mars". We were then taken up to one of the large telescopes and despite not being able to use it because of the weather, Guy explained the equipment thoroughly and demonstrated how it worked. It was really good to see that there was a plan B to show us simulated astronomical objects through the lense, which although wasn't in real time, it did give us a good idea of what we might see. We were then taken into "the kitchen" where there was more equipment to look at and talk through and a warm drink provided. There was an opportunity to buy merch to remember your experience. Rosie then showed us some of the astrophotography equipment and more telescope examples. We had a brief break in the clouds and the team quickly deployed a large Dobsonian telescope for us to view the moon which on it's own seeing it in real time that close and personal was surreal. The clouds quickly returned and the evening was finished off with a demonstration of some home astronomy apps and kit you can use.
Overall, I was really pleased with the experience and it made me look forward to hopefully one day returning when the weather is much better.
