点评:I noticed a tunnel from the US Capitol to the Library of Congress and decided to go over to take a look. You need to pre-book a free timed ticket to the library and there was a QR code at the entrance so I was able to get a ticket before walking down the corridor. It was easier to get in since it wasn't as busy as the main entrance. There was no security check to get to the Library but there was one heading into the US Capitol.
The initial step into the hall was breathtaking. The vibrant colours and the carved stairwell was very beautiful. The roof paintings on the first and top floors were also quite nice. The top floor also had a gallery and Thomas Jefferson's Library. There is also a set of stairs which lead to a balcony in the main library.
As I was leaving, I noticed there was a stall in the great hall where there was someone distributing the tickets for the main library. It is a free tour of the library and I was lucky enough to be able to get a ticket for a tour in the next 15 minutes. You wait at the meeting point with your ticket and then you get to go into the main library. The library was huge and standing in the middle of it was quite an experience. Lots of books and the interior was as beautiful as the main hall. There were also statues lining the top and the top of the columns label the sections within the library.
It is definitely worth a stop if you are in the area to admire the beautiful interior.
