点评:I live half an hour from Southport and try to do a walk in Victoria Park when I am in town. I enjoyed my last visit where I was able to walk the length and breadth until I got to the Southport Model Engineering club where a model train was running on the track which is a delight to see. So I went on a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon and entered the park opposite Morrisons, walked past the bowling green and the little pond, went a little further on and then came to a locked gate which would have allowed me to carry on through the park.
My rating reflects the number of times I’ve been to this park and either it’s only partially accessible, or completely closed due to a private event, preparing for a private event, or closed because it’s getting dark. This is not a public park, it’s privately run and it feels like I’m trespassing or about to be told to leave as they are locking the gates (bit like the pier shortly before that closed completely).
Privatisation of these public spaces has not served Southport community or visiting tourists well. Local volunteer community groups should get together and collectively run this park better and have it accessible to all at all times. It would also be great to have a community run cafe here as well.
