点评:Most of the best things to see in Acadia are on the east side but there is one great reason to come to the west side to see the park's symbol at the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. The lighthouse perched precariously on the rocks overlooking the Atlantic has been here since 1857. It is a small but beautiful light with a house surrounding it.
From the parking lot, there are two trails. The western one takes you to the lighthouse for great views up close. However, the best trail is to the east which takes you down to the shore and the rocks. At higher tides as we experienced, the only way to get that perfect picture is by climbing onto a small rock surrounded by water. In fact, I have no idea how we got all 6 of us on that rock for a selfie with the lighthouse but we did. That view is beautiful, but it is even more special knowing what you have to do to get that picture. It is the symbol most associated with the park and a real must visit for me, well worth the drive to this side of the island.
Best advice, come earlier or just after lunch. It is crowded and there is not much parking. We visited quickly after lunch and while we had to wait some, the line expanded behind us significantly.
