Beyond Expectations For Wine Tour-A Full Experience!

点评：At first I was hesitant to drop near $90 on a wine tour, but let me say: it is worth every penny. Once you arrive by train in Frascati, your hosts meet you at the station. You then must climb the fairly lengthy and challenging stairs to the main square of the town. Once at the top there is a panoramic view of the valley below that leads to Rome in the distance.
A short tour of the town accompanied a history of the area from pre-Roman all the way through medieval to WW2 and present day. You then get a couple of glasses of wine in a local tavern before getting a ride to the vineyard.
This location is a slice of Italian heaven, frozen in time and surrounded by a bucolic countryside that makes Rome seem far away. You get a history of the wine making, a tour of the wine cellar deep in a volcanic bubble dating to pre Roman times. Several different wines are on offer in the dark grotto.
Then back up a level to a communal dining room where you have more wine with Italian meats and cheeses with wine jelly and truffle honey-both beyond description. A dinner of carbonara with crispy bacon (guanciale) on top rather than cooked in has more rounds of wine.
Finally, more wine and musicians come out-guitar and female vocalist and explain that music and singing are integral to the whole Italian dining experience. Songs for everyone’s country are included, was delighted to get ‘il pescatore’ for a fan of Italian music. More wine and a chance to purchase and send some home shipped by them-and your hours long tour seems far too short. The tour guide grew up on this location and his knowledge is deep and delivered with a wry sense of Italian humor.
If you want a deeper understanding of Italian culture you cannot do any better. Highly recommended.
