Caution- Very Dangerous

点评：This is a review to bring you caution. I have not been to this waterfall/ pond, but instead just lost a friend who did. He is from Puerto Rico and had gone to this waterfall this week, his friend jumped in and made it across just fine (there's a cliff people like to go off of) and he followed. Although my friend was an adult who could barely swim he was sucked under. "Ataud" translates to "coffin" and the locals know how many people die here. It is a deep pond and there is a strong current, but it is not across, it's DOWN. Due to the deep volcanic structure of these mountains this particular pond, which is about 25ft deep, has an on and off DOWNWARD pull which turns on and off. You cannot see this from the surface of the water and it is not necessarily affected by rainfall (there had been no substantial rain in the days leading up to my friends death). There are signs on the hike down with all the names of people that have died. People still go, and plenty of people survive, but I'm shocked at how none of the review sites have any mention of this danger. I'm hoping this will help people be cautious and potentially save a life. My friend was Edgardo Jose Torres Estremera and he died January 17, 2025. He was a fabulous ballet & salsa dancer, friend, teacher, and person.
