点评：On the top-5 of official botanical gardens sadly this comes close to the bottom; above the dismal Hambantota one but below the much newer Seethawaka one (Avissawella). Despite the historic value, with e.g. the first rubber trees, maintenance and staff attitude is underwhelming hence not much fun in visiting:
* Two of the greenhouses, for orchids and larger trees, were locked at 11 AM and it took us 15 minutes to mobilise staff that would unlock them, despite the office being a stone's throw away!
* The historic rubber tree section has heavy storm damage from 10 years back but was never repaired/modernised
* Many of the other sections are underwhelming; yes the palm-fringed entree is great (similar to Peradeniya) but as cars park in the back of the gardens you hardly see it on a usual walking route. Hibiscus section is tiny, the nextdoor fern section is better.
* The pond at the back with swan boats is just a nice leisure extension mainly for locals; unlike Seethawaka not integrated in the garden landscape.
Hence only recommended for diehard botanical lovers, other tourists better skip these in favour of more time for Peradeniya/Hakgala/Seethawaka.
