点评：It seems pointless to add to the superlatives here but we can’t say enough amazing things about our tour with Royer. We had originally booked a dusk tour with Ficus but they were very accommodating when we asked to change our trip to a “half-day” tour as our plans had changed. We met Royer near his house at 6 am, and he immediately took us to a beach area minutes away where we spent a couple of hours observing two and three toed sloths and squirrel monkeys. Royer is the consummate guide: his enthusiasm for his environment knows no bounds. He grew up in the area and has an impressive vocabulary of bird, animal and frog sounds that drew fauna to us for viewing…he is perfectly fluent in English which made for great conversations about the changes to the ecosystem that he loves so much. We also hiked the area where he grew up near Dos Brazos on the El Tigre river where we saw fiery-billed aracari toucans nesting, yellow-fronted toucans, red-capped manakins, poison dart frogs, spider monkeys and dozens of other birds. His knowledge of the forest trees and shrubs was equally impressive, with his knowledge of both latin and common names, as well as their uses and interdependence. Royer had a high powered spotting scope that he used to zero in on species and was adept at using our smartphones to take exceptional photos and videos of our finds, creating an amazing library of lasting impressions. We ended our day around 2 pm, spent but elated, and can’t wait to go out again with Royer again in the future.
