The Old Ghost Road的点评
点评：This is a fabulous walk! The views are stunning and the landscape quite varied. Having completed several Great Walks, I would have this up there with the Heaphy as my favourite. The track itself is kept in very good condition and while it is very long, it is not terribly arduous. Day 1 takes you up through beautiful rain forest. Day 2 takes you from Lyell Hit to Ghost Lake Hut and the highest point of elevation at Heaven’s Door. Wow! The views are incredible, arguably as good as Day 2 of the Keppler Track! The sunrise is beautiful here! Day 3 and 4 continue the descent but keep offering more and more varied landscape across the Alpine environment and across marshes and valleys.
I was initially put off by the fact that there are mountain bikers sharing the trail but honestly, it’s not a thing. Everyone got along fine. It’s not like there are many anyway. The huts are nice but small. One of the things I liked most about the accommodation was that they have private ‘sleep out’ huts separate from the main hut. These have a really nice bit of privacy. The toilets are composting toilets and kept very clean (so much better than the long drops at DOC huts!).
The history behind this place is amazing! Read the making of the Old Ghost Road book in the lodges. It’s a terrific read!
