点评:This was our second experience of the Montreux Jazz Festival and if it wasn’t for the fact that we have credit vouchers still to spend, I have some doubts that we’d return.
It’s extremely crowded, very overpriced (expect to pay 150CHF upwards for anything approaching decent tickets for the main venue, and with increasing corporate sponsorship, every possible opportunity of getting close to the beautiful lake is blocked by corporate promotions or bars. It all felt very claustrophobic.
Add to this there’s a serious shortage of mid price hotel rooms in Montreux, and you can easily expect to pay 300CHF a night for even basic accommodation and it all adds up to a very expensive experience - and I’m simply not convinced it’s worth it. I’d rather see an act I really want to see in more pleasant surroundings where I’m not feeling ripped off.
A victim of its own success? Yes. It needs a rethink in terms of infrastructure and organisation.
