点评:I was booked in to Gregynog by for a week in May by my employers, so while I had not done any research on the accommodations myself I was expecting the usual "good enough for work" level of accommodation. Unfortunately Gregynog let us all down massively.
My room was a "Heritage" room within the hall itself, and can best be described as "institutional". It was clearly once laid out as a multi-person dormitory but had been converted to a single room by throwing a single bed in to one end. The "glorious" view out of the sash window was only slightly marred by the view of randomly fallen roofing slates, some which were very fresh looking.
The most concerning issue however was the "DO NOT DRINK" warning over the cold tap in every room, which meant the only source of potable water was an ominous unlabelled bottle left on the bedside table, with no indication for when the bottle had actually been placed there. Also, the room contained wooden block to stop the door opening too far, unfortunately said block was the exact same colour as the rest of the floor, so was effectively a booby trap for visually impaired visitors or at night due to the only light switch for the room being near said door and no lamp provided.
During my blessedly short stay, the main problems I encountered with the actual accommodations were
1) A metal bed slat pushing through the bedspread and scraping across the back of my leg.
2) A shared shower who's floor seemed to be home to a biological experiment, and was the only functioning shower across two floors of the building
3) Shared toilet facilities that varied from "not terrible" to "dystopian nightmare" depending on which part of the hall you were staying in
4) A strong and pervasive smell of damp and "mustiness" across the entire building, even in the more expensive "courtyard" en-suite rooms. This smell somehow clung to clothes and had to be washed out.
5) Radiators that were either locked to fully on, fully off or rooms with no radiator at all.
6) No instructions were given regarding gaining access to the rooms after hours. In fact, when I left the site at 6:30am on a Monday morning there was no way for me to re-gain access to my room as the front door locked immediately behind me and none of the keys supplied would open the door.
As for the rest of the stay, the staff seemed very uninterested in providing any help or assistance to guests, and seemed utterly shocked that most of the guests left the very next day never to return. I hate to think how much my employer paid for this group booking, but I ended up arranging accommodation at my own expense to avoid staying there any longer than necessary
