Historic Westpac Bank Building的点评
点评：Originally this was the AJS bank- The Australian Join Stock Bank. It was the first bank to establish in Hay, in rented quarters beside Moss' store. In 1872 weatherboard premises were built on a site north of this building.
The present Westpac Banking Corporation building was erected by the Witcombe Bros. The architect was Benjamin Backhouse of Sydney.
Benjamin Backhouse (1829 – 29 July 1904) was an architect and politician in Australia. He was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Council.
Construction began in 1877 and the bank moved into the new premises in 1878. In 1910 the AJS Bank became the Australian Bank of Commerce ( ABC). This building became the Westpac in 1982.
It's an attractive building... there is something austere about old banks. It's in good condition and is currently used as a bank.
