I am writing to express my concern regarding a recent incident at your Off The Hook Restaurant location in Highlands, N.J. I, along with my service dog, attempted to dine at your establishment on Saturday August 24,2024. Unfortunately, we were rudely denied in a disrespectful manner in front of other customers by your staff member presumably a manager by the name of Kim due to the presence of my service dog. The manager - Kim accused me of falsely claiming to have a disability and demanded that my service dog and I leave the restaurant immediately.
Such behavior is not only discriminatory but also deeply offensive and illegal. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) clearly prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities and requires businesses to accommodate their needs. Service animals are protected by law and should be treated with respect. Kim's actions were not only unprofessional but also create a hostile environment for individuals with disabilities. This is not the first time Kim has denied service animals. She denied a customer with a Guide Dog.
I understand that it is important to maintain a clean and safe environment for all patrons. However, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) specifically prohibits businesses from denying service to individuals with disabilities who are accompanied by their service dogs. These dogs are trained to perform tasks that assist their handlers in navigating the world. At the podium in front of the restaurant Kim directly asked me what type of disability I have in front of other customers, humiliating and embarrassing me, and say's "My disability is fake". This is a direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). I believe that your restaurant should strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers.
