点评：On the third day of holiday shopping in Portsmouth after the Black Friday/Small Business Saturday events, I got a parking space in the Worth Lot off Maplewood Avenue adjacent to the Vaughan Mall. It was close to where I planned to shop. After visiting a few stores along the way, I got to Nahcotta. It was a revisit to this store for me.
Nahcotta classifies itself as an art gallery and home goods boutique, but it’s really a lot more. It’s a stationery store, a gift store, a jewelry store, a greeting card shop, an apothecary, etc.
One will find many types of art supplies. Then, there all the stationery and notebooks, note pads, sticky notes, planners, journals, diaries, calendars, stickers, and more.
The shop also carries handbags, clutches, shoulder bags, sling bags, messenger bags, and wallets in many different styles and materials.
For jewelry, there were earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and enamel pins. The store carries some fine jewelry with semiprecious stones and diamonds. One delicate ring I saw was a heart-shaped diamond at $368.00 that would make a perfect pre-engagement ring or promise ring. One ring had small citrine cut in a diamond shape and was bezel set. That was $350.00. One unusual bracelet was made of peridots. It was $120.00. Earrings included hoop, drop, dangle, and stud styles in plan metal or set with beads or stones. Most of the necklaces I saw had pendants.
Numerous accessories included Merino wool socks, cotton blend socks, winter scarves, barrettes and hair clips,
There were a number of books from cookbooks and coffee table books to children’s books and guides.
The store had a couple dozen different candles. Some were tea lights; some were tapers; others were in jars and tumblers. I saw several environment-friendly soy candles. One of interest was the No. 11 Balsam + Clove Soy Candle by Dilo from Philadelphia at $32.00. It was made with 100% soy wax. It was expected to burn for 65 - 70 hours. It was a seasonal candle.
There were also some bath and body items that included body wash, sea water soaps, a mineral bath soak, bath bombs, hand lotions, lip balm, and a few nail polishes.
For the kitchen, the store had just about anything one would want or need from cookware, single-purpose knives, and utensils to table top.
And, of course, there was a wide selection of wall art. There was one piece that I found fascinating. It had wood-textured roundish discs hanging from a stick and overlapping each other. They were in shades of browns, golds, and reddish browns. They reminded me of samples of leather that one of my uncles had in his leather shop.
With all those types of goods within its walls, it was no wonder that the store was filled with a couple dozen shoppers when I arrived.
Out of everything I saw, the items I liked best were the No. 11 Balsam + Clove Soy Candle by Dilo and the sea water soaps from Atlantic Soap Company of Falmouth, ME. I added both on my Holiday Gift Wish List.
For the variety and quality of the merchandise it carries, I rate Nahcotta at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit.
