点评:When I was walking along the Westbrook River Walk, I’d spotted a church steeple in the distance. It looked very interesting.
After finishing up in the downtown area, I went in search of it. I found it on Brown Street. It was on St. Hyacinth Church. As expected, it was a historic church.
The beginnings of this church date back to the mid 1800’s. Over the years, existing buildings were purchased and used as the church.
In 1941, construction began on the church building we see today. It was built in Gothic Revival style. The three-sectioned Gothic windows run down the sides of the church.
The finished church was blessed early in 1950.
There is a rose window high up on the front.
I found the red roof is interesting.
Overall, the church resembles a modern-day, scaled-back version of a European cathedral. For a city the size of Westbrook, I think it’s just the right size.
I rate St. Hyacinth Church at 4.25.
Across the street, the former associated convent and school have been converted to apartments.
