点评：Hiked over five miles in Main Canyon (trailhead at Coal Creek near the Cameo Exit 46 on I-70 near Palisade) with a hiking group of 20 hiking club members: active, mobile 60-80+ year old hikers.) We saw over twenty wild horses scattered in the canyon bottom and up the steep hillsides. Shallow water (ankle deep) creek crossings on the hike. We also saw a band of about one dozen Rocky Mtn bighorn sheep below the cliff escarpments on the west side of the canyon. Recommend a hiking stick or trekking poles, sunscreen, and hiking boots (there is quite a bit of prickly pear cactus that can poke through sneakers). Take plenty of water for your hike. Very little shade, so be prepared.
It was an amazing experience with the horses. They were not particularly bothered by our presence so we got quite close (15 yards) as we passed through a herd of sixteen or so horses. No guarantee you will see horses because they are free to roam, but it is magical when they show up.
