While waiting I noticed that around half the tables were empty and many of them were not cleared. I sat down at one of them as no seating was available in the wait area. I immediately noticed the surface was sticky, indicating it was not properly clean. After 15 minutes I checked with the employee in the front who was different. He told me that he was the manager and that the wait for a table was now an additional 20 minutes. He also indicated that there were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant which was why half the tables were empty with people waiting. His excuse was that Tuesday is not normally a busy night despite the fact that directly next-door to the restaurant was a haunted house for Halloween, set up annually by the city that was crowded with people. It struck me as bad management for not taking into account the venue next-door for staffing considerations. At that point I walked out, noticing that the waiting area was not half empty as I suspect others did the same thing I did. Instead, I went to a local grocery store, purchased some precooked ribs, slaw, potato salad, and cornbread and had a delicious dinner at home. Several days later I tried calling Chili's during business hours to report the issue and received an automated message that no one was available and to try some other time. Given these 2 experience it strikes me that Chili's could care less about their customers. Chili's is not dead to me and it is highly unlikely I will ever try eating there again as there are other restaurants in Fremont that serve similar food with decent customer service and properly maintain their restaurant.
