点评:We (couple in our 60s, sons around 30) visited The Llama Pack Project on our visit to Peru. We met the project guides & the llamas, then had a short introduction to the mission. They are working to help the Andean communities use more llamas in the trekking industry, as they are easier on the land than burros & horses. Sounds like an excellent idea, and Llamas are the cutest animals as well as being gentle on the land. Then we watched as a few llamas got their packs on, and the lead bell llama led all 18 or so llamas on their way. It was an upward walk of about 45 minutes, pretty easy, and when the altitude slowed me down, the project folks were there to help. Everyone else had no problem at all with the walk. The llamas snacked on grasses along the way, and a couple went off the path then ran in their cute gallop to catch back up. One llama was a rascal going into a water channel, poking into the bushes, then up the side of the hill, then back to the pack.
Once at the top of the path, we rested & drank coca tea with cake & cookies, while our hosts prepared a meal with local corn & potatoes pachemento style, meaning a rock bbq built into the ground, then covered to cook. We enjoyed hanging out while the llamas grazed, chatting with the lead guide, Almero, who translated for us so we could chat with the other 4 guides, then had a tasty lunch. After, we headed down. It was easier & there was always a helping hand if the footing got a little tricky for me. All in all, a wonderful morning with new friends & the delightful llamas!
