点评:Sept 18 was my last night in Antwerp. I was talking to the hotel team on a dinner choice. A random stranger recommended Matty’s.
I arrive to a house, both my driver and I were hesitant for me to get out. The street number was correct, the front door was open and a staircase beckoned. So I start up and am greeted by who I know now is “the chef”. He might have thought I was some random wanderer, breaching his oasis. First sin, I never got his name, my bad. His greeting was warm and the dinning space was stunning. Clean lines, impeccably dressed. Surprise to have a back yard filled with guest having pre dinner drinks. Chef lets me wander and take pictures. Tonight they are hosting a large group and I am the only other guest. You guessed it, party of 1, the joy of every establishment.
Now as I take my seat I meet the founder and original chef, Matty. I learn he is the face of the enterprise ,the kitchen belongs to his former sous. He tells me about the experience I am about to have, we agree he will feed me and pour wines he had paired.
So began a wonderful night of exquisite presentation. Every course was unique and magic on the palette. Sampling items I would never have ordered and now added to my food repertoire.
The beauty of the pieces made it hard to break them apart. Matty said ‘take a pic to remember”. When the peach Melba arrived, feast first with your eyes and then savor.
Today I looked at my uber movement and realized I was there for 3.5 hours.
Second sin, some of the web pages say lunch is offered. So the craven me wandered down there today for another round. The info was incorrect. Note to all, dinner only ,make a reservation. Left for Brugge devastated.
So when you are in Antwerp make this a must in your plan. The best food and service without pretentious fluff.
