点评：Visiting the wonderful Weihnachtsmarkt Am Roten Rathaus ( Red City Hall Christmas Market ) I wandered over to the wonderful Neptunbrunnen,in my opinion one of the most beautiful fountains in Berlin.
Constructed in 1891 from designs from Reinhold Begas who was one of the most renowned German sculptors back in the day,the fountain features Neptune who was the Roman god of sea and water atop a giant shell ,flanked by four female figures representing the River Elbe,River Rhine,River Vistula and River Oder,I love the animated pose of Neptune with trident in hand controlling a fierce sea beast ,this juxtaposition of figures and creatures is spellbinding ,the fountain was originally positioned in front of Berlin Palace but due to the devastation heaped on Berlin during World War Two was moved to this location on Rathausstraße, its most definitely a fountain to check out if you're in the area, for me personally it's testament to the artistic flair of Berlin and reminds us all how much this city is such a fascinating destination to visit.
