点评:Dropped in twice on recent visit to Reading, the first scouting it, the second with a friend. Thoroughly enjoyed this pub, more than on last visits before the lockdowns.
Bar staff were better than ones I've encountered here before. The young manager is a well-spoken, unassuming guy. On the first occasion he had to cajole out of the door an awkward man who'd brought his own drink in. Done with tact and patience--"a lot of ushering", as our hero described it afterwards--and resolved without fuss. Ellie, the barmaid from Warrington via Devon (most people who land in Reading do so via meanderings--it's never the first choice, but in my opinion a good one: it's a secretly smashing town with its own Zen) was also good at her job. She knew the beers and came over chatty and convivial. Customers here friendly too.
Much love to the Allied Arms. Offers something different from the other places to drink nearby--a traditional pub experience, but with modern attention to casks of ale.
