19th Century Drinking Fountain For Thirsty People & Horses

点评：This 19th century water fountain is only a very minor sight but, along with the medieval stocks on the village green and the market square cross, it is a reminder of the village’s long, long history.
What you see here is an four-sided stone structure with a small wooden door, a pointed, pyramid-like roof, and a small, decorative feature on the top. At first glance, it looks like a miniature house or church.
It looks like just another decorative feature but in fact it served a very practical purpose. This was the village’s first source of reliably, clean drinking water.
It also catered for thirsty animals and has two horse troughs. It belonged to the days when horses were the main mode of transport. Nowadays the troughs are planted out with spring flowers.
The fountain is located at the top of the High Street. It’s a short walk form the market square but its worth walking here because there’s also a well-preserved classic red phone booth - makes a great photo and unlike the London ones, you’ll have it all to yourself.
