One of extremely rare war memorials to a victorious battle
Battle Of Cesarski Vrh Memorial的点评
点评：Slovenia is overwhelmed with war memorials but what makes this one unique from the vast majority of others is, it is actually dedicated to a victorious battle. The memorial north of Logatec at the main road from Vrhnika consists of a modernist sculpture and a “double sided” information board (in Slovenian only) with plenty of details about the battle.
The battle took place during the Slovenian Independence War in July 1991, just a few meters north of the memorial site. Despite being outnumbered, members of the Territorial Defense (legal predecessor of the present day Slovenian Army) managed to prevent a breakthrough of the opposing Yugoslav Army’s tank regiment and forced them to retreat back to their base. As it turned out later, this was one of key moments of the independence war.
Although located right at the Vrhnika - Logatec main road, reaching the memorial is quite challenging. Legal parking options in the industrial zone around the memorial are very limited and walking about 2 km along the main road (no pavements etc.) from downtown Logatec is at least very unpleasant if not also dangerous.
