After a stunning ride on the train, Mallaig was a bitter disappointment. We knew we had a 2hr wait for the return journey. The only places open was the Co-op and a shop selling take away drinks. All hotels and cafes shut, what a warm Scottish welcome, even the heritage centre locked up. We didn’t expect the place to be busy, but at least a cafe open would be welcome.
I loved visiting this museum, so much to see! From the beautiful wood carvings and seats, to the old photographs of people of the area and model ships. Especially interested in information about Knoydart as was visiting there. Lots of geographical information. Great volunteer, good wee shop. Kweo it going!
The only place that seems to acknowledge that you have tourists visiting on a train ride from Fort William. The rest of the town could learn something from this place. Lots of history and fair variety of artefacts to see. Not much for children. Maybe there could be guided talks ?
A fairly 'traditional' layout, but lots of information on the local area from the pre-historic to the present day. A good selection of selectable videos to delve deeper into all sorts of subjects.
