The station for the Kurunda railway is the usual starting point. It is old, charming, some limited catering and a souvenir shop. Probably not a place you'd go to unless you are taking the railway.
After visiting Karunda, we took a train to Freshwater before transferring to a bus to Cairns. The station is clean and lovely. So nice it's too bad I didn't get so spend more time there.
Quaint station detailing loads of history about the railway track construction, very confronting to be made aware of the hardship these people went through not to mention the lives that were lost. This is also where you catch the train for the Kuranda Scenic Trail and being aware of the history of this track makes this even better than just the magnificent views.
It's a station - but it is the station where we started our worst Cairns experience. Not much social distancing happening anywhere in the station, and lots of people hanging around before the train departs. Gift shop is very ordinary. Why you would go to this station I don't know, unless you are going on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, but that is another experience which gets it's own separate review.
