A highlight of our trip to Istanbul

A good historical overview of Turkey over the last 3000+ years. It is interesting how much of the artifacts referred to in the exhibits is actually in other museums around the world. For example, Ishtar Gate is in Berlin. There is still plenty to see and a relative bargain versus Topkapi Palace.

The Need for Renovation and Expansion at Izmir's Archaeology Museum

This museum is in dire need of a major renovation and an expanded collection for display. Izmir, with its rich archaeological heritage and diverse history, deserves a more modern and well-curated archaeology museum. The artworks displayed outside the museum are actually more interesting than those inside, though unfortunately, they are scattered around with limited or no information provided.

Boring local museum

Boring, in bad condition. Big part of exhibition is not even old - just poor quality replicated pieces. I would say you can skip this museum - not worth spending time on.

Heykelciliğin zaman içerisindeki gerilemesine şahit olabileceğiniz, çeşitli kazı alanlarından getirilen eşyaları görebileceğiniz güzel bir müze. Tarihe veya geçmişte kullanılan el aletlerine merakı olanların görmesi gerekir derim. Müze kartınız yoksa giriş kişi başı 25 TL, öğrenci fark etmiyor. Etnografya müzesi kapalıydı biz gittiğimizde.

A corredo dei siti archeologici della zona

Mi aspettavo di meno, dalle non molte righe rintracciate nelle due guide della Turchia - una italiana e una francese - con cui stiamo viaggiando. Il museo è piccolo, ma ben organizzato, sia per la classificazione del materiale esposto che per le spiegazioni fornite nei pannelli in lingua turca e inglese. A corredo di quanto si può vedere nei siti archeologici della zona - a partire dalla sottovalutata Agorà e da quanto si trova a Sardi -, questo museo offre una serie di pezzi interessanti che illustrano le varie stagioni storico-artistiche della provincia di Smirne, con particolare attenzione alla statuaria romana (ma anche le ceramiche e gli oggetti dell'artiianato orafo non sono trascurabili). Una visita in questo edificio è senz'altro consigliabile.

Nachdem wir die Agora von Smyrna besichtigt hatten, besuchten wir dieses Museum. Hier werden die Funde aus der Agora ausgestellt. Allerdings auch einige aus der Umgebung und aus Ephesus. Die Ausstellungsstücke werden schön dargestellt. Es ist auch alles in englisch erklärt. Uns hat es sehr gut gefallen. In etwa 60-90 Min. ist man durch.
